FAQs

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Both hemp and marijuana are cannabis plants. The defining difference between them is their psychoactive component: tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. Hemp has by law 0.3% or less delta9 THC, meaning hemp-derived products don’t contain enough delta9 THC to create the “high” traditionally associated with marijuana.

Are hemp and hemp-derived products legal?

Yes, the 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized hemp and hemp-derivatives like CBD.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid occurring in hemp, the low-to-no THC variety of Cannabis sativa plant. CBD is offered in a wide variety of products, including flower, pre-rolls, lotions, tinctures, gummies, and even pet supplements. Because hemp has less than .3% delta9 THC, the mind-altering substance in marijuana, the products do not cause a “high.”  More research is needed, but CBD may prove to be a helpful, relatively non-toxic option for managing anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain. These CBD products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. What are terpenes and what are their potential effects?

Terpenes are naturally occurring organic compounds produced in the flower and leaves of the cannabis plant. Terpenes are what make certain strains smell or taste different from others. These organic compounds are highly abundant in many plants that have been consumed for flavor, aroma, and therapeutic purposes since ancient times.  Research into the more than 400 terpenes in the plant is still in its infancy, so it’s hard to make any definitive claims about them.

Here are some common terpenes found in Windmill Farm strains and their potential effects:

  • β–Caryophyllene – Pain relief, anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, anti-depressant
  • α-Bisabolol – Mood-calming effects, anti-anxiety, relaxation and improve sleep quality
  • β-Myrcene – Pain relief, anti-inflammatory and relaxation
  • α-Humulene – Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and appetite-suppressing
  • OcimeneAnti-inflammatory
  • α -Pinene – Anti-inflammatory, bronchodilator, pain reliever, anxiety-reliever, and even a tool to battle short-term memory impairment
  • Limonene – Digestion, anti-bacterial, stress relief
